Wu Hequan graduated from the Department of Wireline Communications, Wuhan Institute of Post and Telecommunications, China in 1964. After graduation he works successively at the China Academy of Post and Telecommunications (CAPT) of MPT and several Research Institutes belong CAPT. He has undertaken to study on optical fiber transmission system and digital communications network and manage R&D projects for a long time. He takes charge to study the development strategy on broadband network especially NGN as well as 3G in recent years. He is former vice president and chief engineer of the China Academy of Telecommunications Technology (CATT). He was elected the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) in 1999 and vice president of CAE in June 2002. He has assigned as Member of China Advisory Committee for State Informatization and Member of office of Steering Group of State medium and long-term plan on S&T. He currently takes on vice director of Supervisory Committee of State High-Tech R&D Programme (863 plan). He is an Adviser of Communication S&T Committee of MII. He serves as Vice Director of an Executive Council of China Institute of Communications and the director of Advisory Committee of China Communications Standards Association.
