Wei Leping graduated from the department of E.E. of Tsing Hua University in 1970 in P.R.China and received the M.S. of E.E. degree from China Academy of Post and Telecommunication Science, Beijing, in 1981. He worked as a visiting scholar and a senior visiting scholar in Canada and Israel during 1984-1986 and 1994-1995, respectively. His research interests are optical fiber communication, SDH, broadband communication, access network and network evolution strategy. He has published over 100 papers and 8 books and has been awarded various first degree, second degree and third degree Science and Technology Achievement Prizes by ex MPT and MII. He is honored as a National Level Expert with a great achievement by the nation. Currently he holds the positions as a member of Information Tech. Field Committee of 863 National High Tech. Program, fellow member of China Communication Institution, the Chief Technology Officer of China Telecommunications Corporation and the president of Beijing Research Institute.
