Strategy and Policy.
Dr. Dan Steinbock is ICT Research Director at the India, China and
America Institute (ICA), a leading U.S. think-tank driving synergies
among the United States and the emerging superpowers. He serves
as the faculty spokesman for FAME (Forum to Advance Mobile Experience),
an initiative by the CMO Council, representing America¡¯s 1,500 leading
tech companies. He is also affiliate researcher at Columbia Institute
for Tele-Information (CITI).
Advisory Board Memberships.
Dr. Steinbock is on the INSIDE 1to1 Editorial Research Board (Peppers
and Rogers Group), INFO, and Communications Booknotes Quarterly
(CBR).
Studies and Consulting.
Dr. Steinbock consults for international organizations (OECD, European
Commission), multinationals (Intel, Nokia, Ericsson), as well as
major ICT/telecom companies (Perlos, Telecom Italia, Tieto-Enator).
He cooperates with Prof Michael E. Porter (ISC, Harvard Business
School) and belongs to the affiliate roster of the Institute for
Strategy and Competitiveness.
Research and Academia.
Dr. Steinbock is the Director of the New York City office of the
prestigious Academy of Finland. He serves as Visiting Professor
at Helsinki School of Economics (International Business Department),
where he conducts Prof. Michael E. Porter¡¯s cluster course. As a
senior Fulbright scholar, Dr. Steinbock has had affiliations with
various departments of New York University, Columbia University
and New School for Social Research. At Helsinki School of Economics,
he has developed several CEMS (Community of European Management
School) courses. These began in 1996 with a pioneering virtual videoconferencing
initiative, a joint project with Intel Corp.
Executive Education.
Dr. Steinbock has taught in the executive education programs of
Columbia Graduate School of Business, Stern School of Business (New
York University), and JOKO Executive Education (Helsinki School
of Economics). He has served as EMBA lecturer for Korean and Chinese
managers.
Dr. Steinbock¡¯s research focuses on strategy and marketing. His
studies extend from clusters and innovation to globalization and
various ICT industries. His most recent article is ¡°Chinese Multinationals
Are Coming!¡± (The National Interest, Fall 2005). His books on the
mobile business include The Mobile Revolution: The Making of
Mobile Services Worldwide (Kogan Page, 2005), Competition for the
Mobile Internet, with Professor Eli Noam, Wireless Horizon
(2002), and The Nokia Revolution (2001). The Nokia book has
been translated to Chinese and Vietnamese, and selected by the International
Business Library as an ¡°outstanding book for business people and
top executives¡± in Israel. The Mobile Revolution is being
translated to several languages (incl. Vietnam, Russia, Taiwan,
China).
Dr Steinbock has tri-continental bases in the United States (New
York City), Asia-Pacific (Shanghai/ Guangdong), and Finland (Helsinki).
